TGIF: The Weekend Starts Tomorrow

TGIF! The weekend starts tomorrow. Plan a few things to look forward to. How about a feel good project? The boys and I are making a huge batch of chocolate chip cookies and dropping them off at friends' houses around the neighbourhood. Spoil yourself and those you love with something decadent. Bubble bath? Expensive bottle of wine? Purchase an awesome movie through Cineplex? Have an over the top dinner - candles and all.

It's Thursday...Already?!?

It’s Thursday already?  It’s APRIL already? Despite the sort of (?) slower pace, the days are still flying by at alarming speed. On the days when I don’t specifically set aside time to exercise/move it isn’t happening. A dedicated window in the morning with a specific task works best for me. I recommend you find what works for you. Schedule it in. And make it happen. Daily. You can be flexible on the start and finish time – for example plan to do your mobility and stability workout from 9:00 - 9:45am. If you end up only having time to do 20 minutes, so be it. Just GET IT IN!

I challenge you to do something for yourself today - even if it's just taking a few minutes to meditate, 10 minutes to get a circuit in, or spending some quiet time in the kitchen preparing dinner. It's a start.

Cheers to the Weekend!

It IS the weekend. Schedules are really helpful these days. But not so much today. Today, make sure it FEELS like the weekend. Indulge a little. Play a lot. Take a break from the serious news and dive into some positive media. Curl up and watch a movie or read a book in the middle of the day... And...if you feel the need to be productive, surprise and delight someone you love. Write a love letter... start a dance party in the kitchen... make breakfast in bed... give a foot massage...

This is helping me feel like we can still make at least a small positive difference in a few lives. So, I'm extremely grateful for this space.

They also encourage everyone to "do what you can to truly make a positive difference for women".

Game Ready: What Is It and Why You Should Give it a Try

Posted: Nov 26, 2019

Sustaining an injury is bad. Having that injury linger (and keep you away from your regular workout and routine) is worse. When your injury just won’t heal or when you’re recovering from surgery, you should book an appointment with our Clinics. At the Cambridge Clinic and Sport Medicine Clinic, we offer Game Ready – a multi-modality therapy system used for recovery – which just might be the therapy you need.

What is Game Ready?

Game Ready is a multi-modality system that harnesses the power of integrated cold, heat, rapid contrast, and active compression therapies, applied directly at the joint, to assist in injury and surgery rehabilitation and recovery. It takes the RICE principles – Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation – long followed to control pain and swelling following injury or surgery, and elevates them with a system that works to accelerate and enhance recovery.

What is a Game Ready appointment like at the Clinic?

Game Ready can be used as an additive to another treatment (i.e. massage) or a standalone therapy. When you are recovering from an injury and book an appointment at the Clinic, our practitioners will determine the best course of action for your recovery.

If that treatment plan includes Game Ready, your practitioner will get you comfortably seated and attach the Game Ready wrap around the injured area. The Game Ready therapy will last approximately 15 minutes, will be painless, and will give you the opportunity to read, check your phone, and more. Sit back and let Game Ready do all the work. It really is that simple.

Based upon your injury and recovery, your practitioner will outline how many Game Ready sessions you need for optimal recovery – your treatment plan is completely customized.

Who should consider Game Ready?

Game Ready is beneficial for anyone recovering from being injured or that are rehabbing after surgery. More specifically, Game Ready can decrease muscle spasms and help to speed up the healing process of:

  • Sprains
  • Strains
  • Swelling

What are the benefits of Game Ready?

Game Ready utilizes compression and cold therapy simultaneously to relieve pain for patients who are recovering from an injury or are post-surgery. It is able to relieve this pain without the use of narcotics or actual ice. It modernizes the RICE principles we’ve all been practicing for years and speeds up the healing process.

Who uses Game Ready?

Because Game Ready is the first-ever sports injury and post-op recovery device of its kind, it is used by:

  • Elite athletes
  • Professional sport teams
  • Leading orthopedic surgeons
  • Physical therapists
  • Athletic trainers
  • Special military forces around the world

You can receive Game Ready treatment anytime at the Sport Medicine Clinic and Cambridge Clinic. Please contact the SMC Front Desk and Cambridge Club Front Desk to book your appointment. The Cambridge Clinic will also be hosting a special workshop where you can learn about the merits of Game Ready and experience it for yourself. Cambridge Club Members can join Andrew on Friday, December 6th from 11:30am – 12:30pm. Contact Andrew for more details and to book a session.
