"Soup of the Day"...just got serious!

- Confidence and self-respect as expressed by members of a group, typically one that has been socially marginalized, on the basis of their shared identity, culture and experience.
Formal definitions don’t nearly do this word justice. Pride has become so nuanced, complicated, charged.
This month is Pride Month. And I would like to “lean in”. I am afraid to do so. Fear is a strong emotion. A strong word. I don’t use it lightly.
I am more afraid of silence.

- Not the same
- Unusual, special
Disparate, distinct, distinctive, diverse, unique
We thrive as a family, a company, a community, a nation because we are able to pivot, innovate, and adapt. We need, rely on, admire, and hold up leaders who are creative, courageous, and tenacious. Who are distinct, have unique ideas, are hardwired to take risks, and rise after defeat and mistakes. The truly innovative leaders are a different sort of breed. There are things about them that are familiar to me. But much of how they think, behave, and act is a wonder.
They are very different from me. Perhaps from you too.
Why are some differences easier to accept? Indeed, more than that: celebrated? Diversity in some instances is lauded. Applauded. Being unique is something to be truly proud of.
